Etchings Festival Events
July 10th - 12th
Ecce Arts opened its 2026 season on April 16 with a program at the Harvard Musical Association featuring works by Grace Hughes, Melinda Wagner, Stratis Minakakis, Gérard Grisey, and Toshio Hosokawa. The evening underscored the ensemble’s commitment to new music, presented by “culturally and socially engaged creative and performing artists.”
The program moved from the microtonal and madrigalian tensions of Hughes’s Tarantula Madriga, which explores “the intensity of mental conflict,” to Wagner’s Romanze with Faux Variations, shaped by “thorny, rhythmically-driven” episodes. Minakakis’s Skiagrafies IV: AIAS approached sound as “shadow etchings,” Grisey’s Talea examined rhythmic dissociation and contrast, and Hosokawa’s Stunden-Blumen reflected on the “ephemeral passage of sounds.”
The concert reaffirmed Ecce’s mission as an ensemble devoted to thoughtful, engaged performance and the presentation of new music. Their interpretation combined clarity, precision, and expressive depth, offering listeners an experience both rigorous and resonant.
